Art Class Descriptions
Art classes at M.V.H.S. are offered to provide all students with the opportunity to become acquainted with the visual arts and to develop their unique individual talents to the fullest extent possible. Classes and activities are offered for students at all levels, from those interested in "trying out" art to those considering a career in art.
Class Offerings Class Syllabus
COURSE TITLE: Art I
Grade Level: 9 - 12 Prerequisite: None Semester or Full Year: Full Lab/Course Fees: $10 Class Limit: 20 This is an introductory drawing class for all students entering the high school art program. Art I is a prerequisite for all upper level art classes such as Art II and Studio Art. A wide variety of mediums and techniques will be explored. COURSE TITLE: Art II Grade Level: 10 - 12 Prerequisite: Art I Semester or Full Year: Full Lab/Course Fees: $25.00 Class Limit: 20 Art II is an intermediate art class with a concentration on the use of color. This class also serves as a prerequisite for Studio Art. COURSE TITLE: Ceramics Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Fee: $25 Class limit: 20 This class is an introduction to ceramics. Hand building techniques, clay preparation, firing and decorative styles will be explored. Ceramics serves as a prerequisite to Ceramics II. COURSE TITLE: Advanced Ceramics Grade Level: 10 - 12 Prerequisite: Ceramics Semester or Full Year: Full Lab/Course Fees: $25.00 (for use of clay and glaze) Class Limit: 20 Advanced Ceramics will concentrate mainly on wheel throwing skills. Most projects will be functional in nature. Students will also learn and perform clay preparation and glaze mixing. COURSE TITLE: Studio Art Grade Level: 11 - 12 Prerequisite: Art I and II Semester or Full year: Full Lab/Course Fees: $25.00 Class Limit: 20 Studio art is an advanced class with it's major goals being to create a State Art quality portfolio and for those serious about a career in art; research and apply for art scholarships. Students must be self motivated and dedicated to producing high quality pieces in an independent atmosphere and on tight deadlines. COURSE TITLE: Digital Photography I Grade level: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Semester of Full Year: Year long class Lab/Course Fee: $25 Class Limit: 18 Students will learn the basics of photography, digital image and retouching and enhancement and computer drawing skills. A variety of computer programs will be utilized to produce original digital art and photography. COURSE TITLE: Digital Photography II Grade level: 10-12 Prerequisite: Digital Photography with passing semester grades Semester of Full Year: Year long class Lab/Course Fee: $25 Class Limit: 18 Students will learn advanced photography skills along with in-depth photo manipulation. A variety of computer programs will be utilized to produce original digital art and photography. Students must be able to work independently and read and follow instructions. Photo taking will occur after school as homework. It is strongly encouraged that students have their own digital camera. COURSE TITLE: Digital Photography III Grade level: 11-12 Prerequisite: Digital Photography II with passing Semester Grades Semester of Full Year: Year long class Lab/Course Fee: $25 Class Limit: 18 Students delve deeper into advanced graphic computer programs to produce original digital art and photography. Students must be able to work independently and read and follow instructions. Photo taking will occur after school as homework. It is strongly encouraged that students have their own digital camera. COURSE TITLE: Digital Photography IV Grade level: 12 Prerequisite: Digital Photography III with passing Semester Grades Semester of Full Year: Year long class Lab/Course Fee: $25 Class Limit: 18 Students will work independently and individually in a studio environment. They will map the direction they wish to take their photography while delving deeper into advanced graphic computer programs. Students will produce a volume of creative and original digital art and photography. Photo taking will occur after school as homework. It is strongly encouraged that students have their own digital camera. |
